Origin, Character, Tempo, Appendix
The Flam Paradiddle Diddle is an extension of the Flam Paradiddle. As the name suggests, there is an additional diddle attached to the end of the rudiment. Usually, a Paradiddle Diddle is written to end on the same hand as the primary accented note, but the Flam Paradiddle Diddle is written to alternate hands, making it a difficult rudiment to execute with the upstroke required to switch hands. Special attention should be given to the quality of the flam, especially in the alternating hands scenario mentioned before. Ensure that the flam is not played too wide and interferes with the rhythmic integrity of the rudiment. This is another rudiment that should be learned at very slow tempos to ensure that a good quality sound is being produced from the beginning.
A very tricky rudiment to master, therefore not introduced in training or tested until later in career development. The Flam Paradiddle-diddle takes a similar form to the normal Paradiddle-diddle however, this one has an accented flam at the start and what make this tricky is that the rudiment switches hands half way through, essentially playing 3 strokes on one hand. This rudiment should be practiced at a slow tempo to ensure eveness throughout and clarity of the flam.
