Origin, Character, Tempo, Appendix
The Dragadiddle is one of the most unique rudiments we have in the American System. In this instance, the drag element of the rudiment is interpreted as two 32nd notes as opposed to embelished grace notes. There has been debate about the terminology used to describe these two interpretations, but the important thing is to execute this rudiment properly from a rhythmic stand point. As this rudiment is written with an accent above the drag, weight should be placed on both of the strokes within the double. Care should be place on not allowing the two strokes to close down rhythmically with the added volume. While this rudiment is less commonly seen in traditional American drumming music, it can be seen as a bridge to more modern American drumming.
The Dragadiddle would be considered as a normal paradiddle with the added extra of a double stroke in place of the normal first stroke. Different to the normal drag rudiments where the drag element is close to the object note, this rudiment replaces the first stroke with a double and is part of the note itself. Consistency should still be a focus whilst playing in order to achieve an nice even sound with an accent on the start of each double stroke.
