Origin, Character, Tempo, Appendix

The Drag Paradiddle No. 2 is yet another extension of a drag rudiment preceeding it.  There is one single drag added before the paradiddle to create a rudiment lasting two full beats. The same technical goals remain true as with the Drag Paradiddle No. 1.  Taps should remain at the same consistent volume, with the drags maintaining the same spacing throughout the rudiment.  Due to the length of this rudiment, it is often written back to back, and serving as the foundation for a half a phrase or more.

With an extra drag added we now have a drag paradiddle No.2.  Here we play a single drag stroke, either open or closed followed by the paradiddle with a drag on the first note.  Again, like with all drag rudiments consistency is key. The rudiment should sound fluid and even. To achieve this try taking out the drags and slowly add each one back in.  This rudiment can be seen accross many study pieces at the Royal Marines School of Music.
