Origin, Character, Tempo, Appendix

The Drag Paradiddle, like many other drag rudiments, is mostly self descriptive. It is executed by playing an accented stroke followed a drag preceeding a paradiddle.  Due to the connective timbre of the Drag Paradiddle, it often written multiple times in a row to create a cohesive and syncopated accent pattern. When learing the drag paraddidle, the drags should be played with a consistent interpretation.  The rhythmic integrity of the Paradiddle should never be compromised by the execution of the drag.

Not often seen amongst UK military drumming however it can be found across various study pieces used by the Royal Marines.  The drag paradiddle No.1 is simply an accented stroke followed by a drag into a paradiddle.  Particular focus should be on consistency and maintaining an even pulse throughout the rudiment.  A good place to start would be to play the rudiment without the drag then incorporate when comfortable.
