The Final of Seven is often linked with the Basler drumming, hence Swiss literature assigned the rudiment to the “Basler Rudiment Family”. The figure is a popular combination of the Five Stroke Roll, Single Strokes in a crescendo. Its starting tempo is 60 quarters per minute and after a continuous acceleration it ends on tempo 100. Swiss literature identified different challenges:
– The Five Stroke Roll should be played in piano
– The faster the more attention has to be paid to rhythm: The Stroke of Five is very short and lasts maximum one eighth-note and the sixteenth-notes should not be contracted and in crescendo
The Final of Seven nearly occurs in every Basler march in its natural practice pattern.
