Origin, Character, Tempo, Appendix

The Triple Ratamecue adds one more drag to the beginning of the Double Ratamecue, as the name implies.  This rudiment is sometimes utilized as a base for a full phrase due to it’s length, taking up two full beats to execute in most instances.  Other times this rudiment can be found sandwiched in between ratamecue variations.  When executing the Triple Ratamecue, attention should be focused on consistency of drag interpretation, as well as the volume at which each tap is played.  Like many rudiments, playing this rudiment without the drags is a good place to start.  This exercise ensures that the “skeleton” rhythm is solid before the grace notes are added.

Like with the single and double, the triple ratamacue simple adds one more drag to the start of the rudiment. Here you now end up with three drags with the third being the start of the triplet. Almost used as a phrase in itself this is one of the longer rudiments played in the UK. Consistency between the drags is key to performing this rudiment as fluid as possible. Used across some of the later studies in the RMSoM sylabus.
