Origin, Character, Tempo, Appendix

The Four Stroke Ruff is a rudiment that has a variety of applications.  It can be used as an embellishment to a primary stroke, with the preceding three strokes acting as grace notes, as well as the basis of the single Ratemacue.  It is one of the foundational rudiments on which others are built upon.

The Four Stroke Ruff appears in the Royal Marines syllabus at level four. Part of the singles family, it has 3 grace notes played as closely to the main note as possible. Can be used to give depth to a single note. Tempo starts at crotchet = 78 and goes up to crotchet = 132
