  • NOT A SWISS RUDIMENT
  • NOT A RUDIMENT IN FRANCE, JUST A RHYTHM

Origin, Character, Tempo, Appendix

The Single Stroke Seven is a common rudiment, used often for impactful beats of music.  Traditionally, in the Fife and Drum community, the rudiment is used as what is called a “fill.”  This just means a beat is replaced on the repeat of a phrase with a Single Stroke Seven to embellish the drum part.

The Single Stroke Sevens appears late on in the Royal Marines Sylabus at level 7.  They are to be played as evenly as possible with an accent on the 7th note.  Their application has a tendency to incorporate a crescendo as it is simple and effective that creates style and character. Tempos range from crotchet = 108 -132

In Swiss notations, the rhythm is often composed as sextuplet, however, it is not a Swiss rudiment.

Ce rudiment n’existe pas réellement en tant que tel, mais se retrouve comme un rythme musical standard : le sextolet.
